The Bach Choir - Into Spring: Brahms Requiem

The Bach Choir shines a fresh light on a programme of works expressing hope, yearning and longing.

Renowned for its mighty scale and power, The Bach Choir has been quietly reimagining its sound in its intimate, reflective Into Spring series. This is an opportunity to experience the choir up close in the gorgeous sonority of Holy Trinity Sloane Square.

Iain Farrington’s ‘haunting’ (Gramophone) arrangement of Brahms’ German Requiem strips the original orchestration back to a reduced ensemble of woodwind and strings, bringing the work’s message of hope and consolation into sharp focus.

Barber’s Agnus Dei transforms his iconic Adagio for Strings into a soaring choral setting, intensifying its already extraordinary emotional power – power that has been harnessed by countless films and TV shows.

Alongside it, Mahler’s Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen, in Clytus Gottwald’s atmospheric a cappella arrangement, offers a moment of quiet, intimate reflection, while Duruflé’s Prelude brings the rich colours of Philip Scriven’s organ playing to the fore.

Don’t miss this soul-stirring journey from solitude and longing to consolation and hope.
